Notes and Summary
  • The fire panel located at Carrizalez Rucker was red tagged on October 9, 2019 and has not been re-inspected as of the date of the inspection.
  • The administration was unable to provide documentation that inmates housed in single cells were provided one hour of dayroom time as required by minimum jail standards.
  • It was observed by the inspectors that the floor jailers are not conducting face-to-face observations as required by minimum jail standards.
  • While conducting the walk-through of the jail system, it was determined that the administration is not conducting daily sanitation practices as noted in the Sanitation Plan that has been approved by the Commission.

Cameron Co. Sheriff Omar Lucio blames their latest non-compliance on “different inspectors, some with different levels of experience, as well as changing laws.” There is really no excuse for following a rule that has been in place for 25 years! I would like to know how sanitation is related to “different inspectors” or “changing laws.” Read more here:
