Notes and Summary

During the facility walk-through, it was noted that the sanitation level of the male inmate living areas was below average. Excessive amounts of nuisance contraband were found in and around inmate bunks. Numerous bunks were found to be covered with extra blankets and torn mattress covers, obstructing officer view. Clothing lines constructed from shredded jail property were noted in multiple areas. Multiple cell doors were found with contraband inserted into the locking device, thus allowing the door to be propped open. Used pizza boxes were found blocking the officer’s view of the toilets in multiple areas and in large quantities behind the inmate dryers, located in the inmate housing areas. Inmates stated that they had, at times, removed the dryer hose from the back of the machine and used the empty pizza boxes to heat leftover food. It was noted that inmates in single cells had multiple Styrofoam food containers that had not been removed by staff. Staff were advised that this issue is a sanitation and health concern.
